About the Board of Directors
Role of the Board
The Horizons Board of Directors provides leadership and governance for the school. Board members:
- Exercise fiduciary oversight to ensure the school's finances are managed responsibly
- Support and evaluate the Head of School
- Draw on their networks and expertise to advocate for Horizons beyond the school community
Eligibility
To be eligible to serve as a parent board member, a candidate must have had a student enrolled at Horizons for at least two years. Board members serve two-year terms.
Selection Process
Parent board members are elected by the Horizons Council in May and begin their service at the start of the following school year. Faculty board members are elected by the faculty and also serve two-year terms.
Board Meetings
The Board of Directors meets on the second Thursday of each month from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Meetings are open to the public, and community members are welcome to attend and observe.
