Health & Wellness

At Horizons K8 School we care for the whole child. We know that before students can focus and succeed in the classroom, they must be supported physically, mentally, emotionally and through a healthy environment.

Our school health room is staffed by a health paraeducator who is overseen by a district nurse. Our health room is a bright, colorful and inviting space where students can rest, relax and receive care. We are very aware that when students come into the health room, they are needing emotional comfort as well as physical first-aid.

Students requiring medication during the school day must submit a signed medical authorization.

Physical Health

On a daily basis it is important for students to take care of themselves by eating healthy, being active and getting enough sleep.  Learning healthy habits now provides both long-term academic and health benefits. K-8 students enjoy planned games and activities at recess, have weekly PE, and sports intensives and exploratories such as biking and swimming.

Important mental health habits—including coping, resilience, and good judgment— help students to achieve a sense of well being and set the stage for positive mental health in adulthood. At Horizons, all students are well-versed and practiced in calming techniques, understanding reactivity and non-violent communication.
