Thank you for your interest in Horizons K-8! Horizons is a 100% open-enrolled school. We do not enroll from a specific neighborhood, and we welcome students from across Boulder County, as well as out-of-district families.

To best understand our school's mission, climate, and educational philosophy, we encourage all interested families to attend an Open Enrollment tour. 

How to Apply

  • All students must apply through BVSD Choice Enrollment using the BVSD SchoolMint enrollment portal, including families who live near Horizons K-8.
  • All on-time applications are entered into a computer-generated lottery based on Horizons' and BVSD enrollment priorities and available seats. Students who live within BVSD boundaries receive increased preference.
  • Submitting an application does not guarantee admission.

All meetings include an informational meeting followed by a school tour. 

Per BVSD policy, Horizons does not permit individual tours or visits outside of scheduled Open Enrollment Meetings.

Key Dates for 2027-28

We invite you to attend the BVSD Enrollment Showcase, BVSD's one-stop-shop enrollment fair, on October 21st (5:00-8:00 PM) at the Coors Events Center in Boulder. Visit the Horizons K8 booth to speak with staff and administrators from each level and learn what Horizons has to offer. 

  • Application window: November 1 – December 18, 2026. Applications received in this enrollment window are given first priority.
  • Lottery and notification: On or about December 23, 2026
  • Offers must be accepted and registration completed within 13 days
  • Waitlist offers: Families offered a seat after the initial lottery have 7 days from the date they are notified to accept or decline.
  • Late applications:  Late applications may be submitted through September 30, 2027.
  • Administrative Transfer for the current school year are considered from Sept 15, 2026 through April 15, 2027

About the Waitlist
Applicants not initially offered a seat receive a waitlist number. The waitlist stays active through September 30, 2027, and offers may be made as seats become available, subject to capacity. Waitlists do not carry over from year to year, so families must submit a new application each year.

Horizons' Choice Enrollment Policy/Preferences 

Horizons only enrolls students who can attend full time. We are unable to accommodate half-time enrollment.

During the open enrollment period, preference will be given to students who meet the following criteria:

  1. Children of Faculty (licensed, non-temporary employee) employed in a licensed Faculty position of .25 F.T.E. or greater, whether they reside inside or outside the BVSD boundaries.

  2. Sibling of a student who is attending and will be attending Horizons the following year. Different from a sibling who has been assigned for the first time to the school.

  3. Equal preference with: Children of Faculty employed in a licensed temporary full-time, temporary part-time or temporary job-share Faculty position, with a one year contract of 0.25 F.T.E or greater (whether they reside inside or outside the BVSD boundaries). Sibling of a student who is assigned in the current year.

  4. Children of non-licensed Staff in their 2nd consecutive year (at time of Open Enrollment), or subsequent, of employment at 25% or greater (ie 10± hours/week), whether they reside inside or outside the BVSD boundaries.

  5. Family Income Preference: In-district applicants who submit an optional current year Family Economic Data Survey (submitting the survey is optional) as part of their online open enrollment application and qualify as low-income, until 25% of the total open enrollment slots are filled with low-income students. 

  6. Other community preferences as already stated in BVSD Policy JECC-R.
