Council Meeting Minutes
January 21, 2021

Meeting called to order at 6:00

Introductions and Communication Agreements 6:00 to 6:10

Head of School Updates 6:10 – 6:30

Lucas describes the need to hire classroom monitors to support a before-care program for 5th thru 8th grades.  He requests that community members contact him and to watch for an email with additional information.
Lucas describes efforts to have onsite coronavirus testing in addition to testing sites at various other BVSD locations.  He asks for community members with medical expertise to contact him to possibly volunteer with the testing effort.

Committee Reports 6:30 – 7:15

District Accountability Committee – Karla S. discusses the most recent meeting which largely addressed vaccinations.  Karla is looking to “pass the torch” on committee leadership and describes the committee as a great way on staying in touch with what’s happening at the District level.

Diversity, Equity, and Belonging – Jessica Hogan discusses a plan for renaming the school mascot before spring break; Sherry Davis describes donations of grocery cards to support community members; discussion of an upcoming facilitated discussion on race and bias – Lucas to send email to community

Finance Review Committee – Paul Ramer discusses work on 5-year budget and reports that a revised 2021 budget has been passed

Board – Lucas summarizes the board meeting from a week earlier.  Tyler summarizes the status of contract negotiations with the District.

Horizons Community Group – Callie Gartner announces an upcoming “at home” pancake breakfast

Open Forum – 7:15 – 8:10Sherry Davis announces a book donation.
An extended discussion ensues on the topic of school reopening and diverse viewpoints are presented, including from various signers of a recent open letter concerning reopening.  Various faculty and administrators also join the discussion. Meeting adjourned at 8:10
